Tempelhof Sounds — Festival information

Beneath the colossal, skeletal span of the historic Flughafen Tempelhof, Tempelhof Sounds transforms a relic of Cold War aviation into a sprawling sanctuary for the eclectic and the raw. The festival trades the claustrophobia of traditional concert halls for a vast, wind-swept tarmac, where the sharp, visceral guitars of Fontaines D.C. and the intimate, jagged storytelling of Big Thief resonate against monumental limestone architecture. It is an aesthetic collision of brutalist history and modern indie-rock curation, gathering a crowd that treats the airfield like an urban campfire. By placing genre-defying acts like Anna Calvi and Courtney Barnett in the heart of Berlin’s most storied non-place, the event cements its reputation as a site-specific pilgrimage for those who prefer their music with a side of grand-scale industrial haunting. Here, the sheer emptiness of the former runway acts as an amplifier for a new era of alternative sound, turning a ghost of the past into the epicenter of the present.
