Britain does not run out of gigs. It runs out of people who can tell you which ones they were at.

Gigvault holds 1,751 UK shows, the oldest from August 1972, and 273 of them are still to come. The interesting part is the distribution.

Manchester, not London

That is not a claim about British music. It is a claim about the people using the app: Manchester's 610 shows spread across 2012 to 2026 and across O2 Ritz, the Apollo, Rebellion and the Academy buildings, so it is a real history, not one bulk import.

The Academy problem

The single most common venue string in the UK data is just "Academy" — 151 shows.

Anyone who goes to gigs in Britain knows why that is a problem. There is an Academy in Manchester, an O2 Academy in Brixton, Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield and Oxford. On a ticket, in a text message, in your own memory, "the Academy" means whichever one you were standing in.

Two things follow.

Use the city, not the venue name, when you search. Manchester and the other city pages resolve the ambiguity that the venue name cannot.

Photograph the ticket. A UK ticket carries the venue in full, and Gigvault reads it off the picture. It is the difference between an entry that says Academy and one you can still identify in ten years.

Rebuilding a British backlog

Most people's UK history is not one long list. It is bursts: a university town for three years, a run of arena shows, then a gap, then a return.

Work in bursts too.

1. Start with the years you went out most, not the most recent ones. 2. Use the city pages to jog the memory — recognising a venue name is far easier than recalling a date. 3. Add the support acts. In Britain they are the ones who come back three years later selling out the room upstairs.

Festivals count separately, and they should

A weekend at a UK festival is not one entry. Every act you watched is its own show, which is why a single summer can outweigh a whole winter of Tuesday nights in your concert stats.
